Does the Curaçao Sea Aquarium profit from this?

No. Although the Queen Conch Hatchery is located at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, it is financially separate under the 'Reef Research Foundation'. The Curaçao Sea Aquarium does provide space, infrastructure and personnel for the hatchery, but your donation goes directly into the foundation, to cover operational costs and future expansion. This is all part of the hatcheries' efforts to strengthen the regional Queen Conch populations.

A quote from one of our visitors:
"I’ve visited the Queen Conch Hatchery a few times now, but it still amazes me how these creatures start out so tiny and transform into such breathtaking shells. The dedication and effort they put into the Queen Conch here is truly inspiring."

Unique, stylish, purposeful

Looking for a truly unique piece of Jewelry? We have a lot of empty conch shells left over, which we've deciced to turn into stunning jewelry pieces. We have earrings, necklaces, bracelets, keychains, and more. All available in the gift shop at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium! All profit from these pieces go toward the Reef Research Foundation.

Isn't it prohibited to take shells with you?

Yes indeed! You cannot collect any shells, corals, or other natural souvenirs. These are protected by law to help preserve the delicate balance of our marine ecosystems. Because we at the Queen Conch Hatchery only sell the empty shells that we've raised ourselves, we have special exemption which allows us to sell them, and allows you to take a maximum of 3 specimens with you abroad! â€‹â€‹
